Footballers are rarely known to suffer depression or other unflashy human failings. Unflashy, in a sense that after this year's World Cup, anger management and unsportsmanship will be added to the other list.
Once the wunderkind of his generation, Sebastian Deisler was touted as the "saviour of the German football". Then, an unbelievable injury spree saw him out of all three tournaments: World Cup 2002, Euro 2004 and most recently, World Cup 2006 on his home soil. If that wasn't enough, a severe depression brought him to the sidelines in 2003, raising questions like, how can rich and successful feel miserable?
Deisler, now 26 and playing for Bayern, made his "last comeback", joining the stoppage-time fray against VfB Stuttgart for 18 seconds - and survived to play another day. I sincerely wish him the best of luck to the season.
